The Institute of Transport Management (ITM) maintains an ongoing monitoring programme for all sectors of the transport industry in its work to encourage best practice. The accreditations bestowed by the Awards Committee reward high performance in key criteria: customer service, innovation, value-for-money, product and service quality and overall professionalism. The process for accreditation involves the collation of detailed information on the major players in the sector, including quantitative data and member feedback, followed by exhaustive analysis and the production of a final shortlist for presentation to the Committee. After due consideration, a winner is selected to receive an official ITM Award and attendant publicity as a reward for its contribution to the transport industry.
For the accreditation series 2011, the Institute is hereby pleased to announce that Volkswagen Group UK has succeeded in scooping the ‘Aftermarket Company of the Year’ title, as in previous years. The company continues to lead the way in providing for garages, fast-fit centres and other businesses requiring quality parts in good time and at a fair price. The pioneering Trade Parts Specialists (TPS) network set up in 2006 was designed to deliver a complete one-stop five-brand solution at a local level and continues to do just that, as well as expanding and refining its revolutionary service to the aftermarket sector as part of the third phase of its evolution.
The TPS network consists of 57 Centres staffed by 700 trade specialists who are trained to the highest industry standards. Each Centre has passed a thorough vetting process to ensure a quality of service which lives up to Volkswagen’s demanding corporate philosophy. The Centres operate on a local basis in order to meet the needs of the surrounding community, especially in terms of stockholding - supply being tied closely to demand via an automated, overnight delivery system. A uniformly excellent standard of performance is maintained across the network through a specialist, real-time Trade Parts Management System (TPMS) which enables complete control over such aspects of the TPS operations as stock holding, special offers and logistical resources. Furthermore, an ongoing price watch scheme is used to set parts pricing and promotion at competitive levels. Perhaps most importantly, Volkswagen recognizes the necessity of a positive working environment, running a ‘TPS Heroes’ reward scheme to encourage exceptional product knowledge and customer service. In conclusion, the network provides a supremely efficient one-stop shop for repairers of Audi, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
